Criteria & Best Practices for Covers On EuroMark eBooks

Tips: when selecting a cover image for your ebook, always select a vertically oriented image. Never select a horizontally oriented image unless you are an extremely talented cover artist. If you upload a manuscript to EuroMark eBooks without a cover, EuroMark will automatically select an image and create a cover for you!

RESOLUTION  (Authors often ask as what is the ideal image resolution for book covers. The ideal resolution for quality book covers is 300 PPI. There is a difference between ideal sizes in images used for print versus web graphics. If small file size is important, the standard resolution for web graphics on Internet is 72 PPI. Images on screen are made of colored squares called pixels. Ideal screen image resolution (detail an image holds) is 72 PPI or pixels per inch. If an image is less than 72 PPI, it will appear fuzzy (pixelated). 72 PPI is not recommended for book covers).

COVER SIZE  (The ideal height for book covers is always 2500 pixels. The standard width for EuroMark eBooks is 1676 and is the preferred width by most authors who like the wide size as it makes book titles easy to read in Internet. Please use 2500 x 1676 for EuroMark. However, some websites prefer a narrower width of 1562 pixels, which follows “the Golden Ratio’ between height and width. These covers are very difficult to make visible titles on). Covers are always vertical, and never square or horizontal. Only audio book covers may be square.

.JPG Image Types (The ideal file type if you are concerned about keeping the download size of your images small. Will not support transparency, but that does not matter as transparency does not exist in ebook formats).

.PNG Image Types  (The ideal file type if you want to maximize picture quality without worrying about image download size. Will support transparency provided its not used in an ebook).

.GIF Image Types (This file type is not recommended, but is possible to use if necessary.
